Tuition-free schools any family can apply to. Two separate systems run side by side in Portland, and knowing which is which is half the battle.
The lottery, in plain terms
Compiled from Portland Public Schools’ official lottery results summaries for the 2023-24 through 2026-27 school years, published each spring at pps.net › prior transfer data. A family’s odds here mean offers made ÷ families still in the running (offers + waitlisted). Applications cancelled because a family accepted a higher-ranked school are not counted against anyone’s chances. Immersion-school totals combine all lottery groups; use the “applying as” line above for your family’s group. Slot counts and preferences are reset by PPS every year — past results are a guide, not a promise. Last checked July 2026.
