KairosPDX Learning Academy

a tuition-free public charter in Portland

K–5 · Public · Charter · Portland Public Schools (Charter)

4915 N Gantenbein Ave, Portland · Timothy Rodgers

KairosPDX weaves culturally responsive teaching into a curriculum designed to close opportunity gaps and foster joyful learning. Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, the program emphasizes critical thinking and creativity through hands-on exploration, while embedding cultural history, identity, and social-emotional learning throughout the school day.

Students engage in the arts and STEM through Community Action Sessions (CAS)—weekly enrichment opportunities led by community partners in service learning, science, technology, engineering, mathematics, health & wellness, and arts & culture. The curriculum is both designed (based on Common Core Standards) and emergent, evolving from student interests and curiosity.

Teachers build strong relationships with students through a pedagogy of listening and collaboration, empowering them to see themselves as capable learners and leaders. The Reflection Room supports wellness through mindfulness practices, positive reinforcement, de-escalation, and conflict resolution. A community garden provides hands-on learning about nutrition, environmental stewardship, and cultural food traditions.

Your odds in the lottery

Seats here aren’t first-come; they’re drawn by lottery. Each circle below is a tenth of the families who applied over the last two springs and stayed in the running (didn’t take a higher-ranked school). Filled circles got a yes.
