Primerly field report
a tuition-free public charter in Sherwood
K–8 · Public · Charter · Sherwood School District
23264 SW Main St, Sherwood · Joy Raboli, Principal
Sherwood Charter School's defining feature is integrated thematic instruction. Each grade runs on a single year-long theme, and every subject is organized to connect back to it, including the specials: art, music, and PE follow the same theme on the same schedule rather than operating as separate tracks, and classrooms are physically transformed into whatever is being studied, a garden or a pioneer wagon or a forest. Underneath the theming, core academics stay standards-aligned, with Reveal Math and myView literacy in elementary, Core Focus and Amplify in the middle grades, and FOSS Next Generation for hands-on science.
Character instruction is explicit rather than incidental. The school's own H.E.A.R.T. framework (Honor, Empathy, Accountability, Respect, Teamwork) is taught from kindergarten and reinforced through intentional "class families," and middle grades add a Leadership Academy where every 6th through 8th grader joins one of five multi-grade houses that meet daily for team building, service projects, and competitions. Learning leaves the building often, from the Oregon State Capitol and Tualatin River National Wildlife Refuge in elementary to Hatfield Marine Science Center and OMSI in middle school. Practical notes for families: SCS runs a 4-day week, Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM; uniforms are required, with free dress the last Thursday of each month; and there is no hot lunch program and no bus service, so students bring lunch daily and all arrival and dismissal runs through car line. Enrollment is by lottery through Lotterease with sibling and in-district priority.

Seats here aren’t first-come; they’re drawn by lottery. Each circle below is a tenth of the families who applied over the last two springs and stayed in the running (didn’t take a higher-ranked school). Filled circles got a yes.
Official PPS lottery results, 2025-26 & 2026-27 combined: offers made ÷ families still in the running (offered + waitlisted); applications cancelled for a higher-ranked school excluded. pps.net › prior transfer data. Slots reset every year.
