Bridger Creative Science School

a tuition-free public neighborhood school in Portland

K–8 · Public · Neighborhood · Constructivist · Portland Public Schools

7910 SE Market St, Portland · Tarehna Wicker

Bridger Creative Science School is a K–8 PPS focus-option program where teachers use a constructivist, inquiry-driven model to help students build understanding through storyline units, project- and problem-based learning, field studies, and service learning. The day blends PPS core curriculum with hands-on investigations that ask students to hypothesize, test, and reflect, very much “creative” and “science” in everyday practice.

Take note: Bridger Creative Science School was created in fall 2023 when PPS merged the formerly citywide Creative Science School with neighborhood Bridger Elementary as part of the Southeast Guiding Coalition boundary changes, bringing the constructivist, inquiry-driven model into a neighborhood school setting while preserving open enrollment. BCSS remains a full K–8 focus option, meaning families from across Portland can apply through the annual PPS lottery at any grade level. Note: Spanish Immersion is no longer offered at Bridger, that strand moved to Lent (K–5) with Spanish DLI continuing at Kellogg for grades 6–8.

Your odds in the lottery

Seats here aren’t first-come; they’re drawn by lottery. Each circle below is a tenth of the families who applied over the last two springs and stayed in the running (didn’t take a higher-ranked school). Filled circles got a yes.
