HOLLA School

a tuition-free public charter in Portland

K–5 · Public · Charter · Specialized · Reynolds School District (Charter)

14513 SE Stark St, Portland · Eric Knox, Executive Director

HOLLA School is a tuition-free public charter in the Reynolds School District, created to “change the academic narratives” of Black, Brown, and Indigenous children through culturally responsive teaching and tight family partnership. Classroom learning is anchored in embedded, all-day mentorship, adults are present in classrooms, at recess, and in transitions to build trust, spark motivation, and keep kids engaged.

Instruction is intentionally joyful and rigorous, drawing on Dr. Gholdy Muhammad’s framework (identity, skills, intellect, criticality, joy) alongside a comprehensive elementary curriculum. As a young, growing school, HOLLA communicates a K–5 vision; the most recent public data show a small, close-knit enrollment (~98 students in 2024–25, K–4), ask the office about the current year’s grade span and seats.

Families describe a school where children are “seen,” and culture, language, and lived experience show up inside the curriculum every day.

Your odds in the lottery

Seats here aren’t first-come; they’re drawn by lottery. Each circle below is a tenth of the families who applied over the last two springs and stayed in the running (didn’t take a higher-ranked school). Filled circles got a yes.
