Vestal is a neighborhood K–5 school on NE 82nd Avenue built around a social justice model: students learn empathy, anti-bullying, and restorative practices, research a local issue with community partners, and present proposed changes to real audiences, keeping a portfolio of that work each year. Support runs unusually deep for a school of 250.

Vestal houses 2 Intensive Skills Center (ISC) classrooms, 1 for K–2 and 1 for 3–5, which are PPS special education classrooms for students with more significant needs, placed through the IEP process. General education students draw on a Learning Center, an intervention teacher, an instructional specialist, and an ESL teacher.

A speech-language pathologist, occupational therapist, OT/PT, and adapted PE teacher are on the staff list. A school counselor and social worker are on staff, a psychologist is on site 2 days a week, and a Morrison Center representative is on campus Thursdays and Fridays. The social worker also runs basic needs support through Communities in Schools.

Art, music, PE, and library are taught by dedicated teachers, with Right Brain arts integration and Grow Portland garden lessons in the community garden behind the building. The campus also hosts Pre-K/Head Start, YMCA child care, and a SUN Community School.
