The Portland Montessori School, formerly Providence Montessori School, is Oregon's first Montessori program and the Pacific Northwest's longest-running. Located on over an acre in the North Tabor neighborhood, the school serves nearly 150 students across three levels: Toddler Community (15–36 months), Primary (ages 2.5–6), and Elementary (grades 1–6), all with AMI-certified guides and multi-age classrooms where children work at their own pace with hands-on Montessori materials.

Grace and Courtesy, Practical Life skills, and independence-building are woven throughout every level; the Elementary program uses Cosmic Education (a curriculum that links the entire universe through science, geography, history, and the arts) and includes 'Going Outs,' small child-led excursions into the community for authentic research experiences. The school has a dedicated Outdoor Program anchored by four educational gardens: a Learning Garden, a 'Raindrops to River' Rain Garden, a Native Pollinator Habitat, and a 'From Seed to Snack' permaculture garden, earning the school a Gold level Backyard Habitat certification. The school also partners with local community organizations and holds an active parent advisory committee, reflecting its community-oriented character.
