Name change to Sunrise Elementary in May 2026*

Sunrise Elementary (also listed by ODE as Lee Elementary and Jason Lee Elementary) is a Title I neighborhood school in Northeast Portland focused on developing creative, confident, lifelong learners who honor diversity through strong family partnerships. Students receive core academics in ELA, math, science, and social studies alongside weekly art, music, PE, and library specials. The school offers Pre-Kindergarten, robust Special Education services, and is a district host site for 2 behavior-focus classrooms, which is reflected in its high proportion of students with disabilities and its large support staff. A school counselor and a social worker are on staff.

Sunrise runs a SUN Community School program through IRCO that provides homework help, enrichment, a weekly free Fresh Food Market, and family resources. A distinctive feature is the school's renewable-energy program: a 3.08-kilowatt solar array installed in 2013 through Solar 4R Schools, which came with teacher training and hands-on science kits to bring clean-energy topics into the classroom. An active PTA offers free family membership and holds meetings every other month with dinner and childcare provided. Families describe a small-school feel where staff know students by name, with a strong sense of community and parent involvement.
