St. Rose School

a faith-based private school in Portland

PK–8 · Private · Religious · Catholic

5309 NE Alameda St, Portland · Jill Harris, Principal

St. Rose School is a fully accredited WCEA PreK–8 Catholic parish school, self-described as "the little school where big things happen," with one class per grade and a community that welcomes Catholic and non-Catholic families alike. Core academics (language arts, math, reading, science, and social studies) are taught alongside religion, and enriched by art, music (2 days per week in PreK–5, weekly in middle school), and PE (3 days per week in K–5, 2 longer sessions in middle school). Middle school is taught by subject specialists, with regular and accelerated math tracks. All grades attend a weekly Library/Media Literacy class, where students build research skills, and a weekly STEM session in a dedicated MakerSpace, where they develop keyboarding skills through Typing Club; a technology lab supports this work.

Social-emotional learning is embedded throughout using the Second Step Violence Prevention and Bullying Prevention curriculum, integrated with PE, science, and religion, and a weekly virtue education curriculum builds character alongside academic growth. Service learning is woven into every grade level, with partners including Loaves & Fishes, St. Vincent de Paul, and Northwest Children's Outreach, and middle schoolers work toward service goals of 10, 15, and 20 hours in grades 6, 7, and 8. The school reports 100% of 8th grade graduates accepted to their first-choice Catholic high school.
