St. Pius X Catholic School

a faith-based private school in Portland

PK–8 · Private · Religious · Catholic

1260 NW Saltzman Rd, Portland · Mrs. Joanne Smith, Principal

St. Pius X is a WCEA-accredited PreK–8 parish school on an 11-acre Cedar Mill campus shared with St. Pius X Church, next door to the Cedar Mill Community Library. Every student takes art, music, PE, Spanish, technology and library with dedicated specialists, and Archdiocesan curriculum expectations set scope and sequence across core subjects. The school frames its four Schoolwide Learning Expectations as Love, Knowledge, Respect and Justice.

The distinguishing academic structure is leveling. Seventh and eighth grade math are each taught at three ability levels: Level B on archdiocesan grade-level guidelines, Level A covering the same content in greater depth and at a faster pace, and an accelerated track that reaches Pre-Algebra in 7th grade and a Catholic high school level Algebra 1 in 8th. Middle school language arts runs at two levels. Placement uses STAR assessment, DRA scores, classroom performance and teacher recommendation.

Sixth graders spend the year preparing for a week at Outdoor School. Students in grades 5–8 bring a family-supplied Chromebook daily. Academic support runs through the Student Enrichment and Support (SES) program, a multi-tiered structure staffed by 3 grade-banded Learning Support teachers that produces Student Support Plans or Individualized Learning Plans on teacher referral, with an instructional aide in every elementary section.

Tuition: $10,900 - $13,995 (2026-2027 range)

Your odds in the lottery

Seats here aren’t first-come; they’re drawn by lottery. Each circle below is a tenth of the families who applied over the last two springs and stayed in the running (didn’t take a higher-ranked school). Filled circles got a yes.
