St. Clare is a K–8 Catholic parish school in SW Portland that its principal calls "a small school with a big heart." Alongside core academics and religion, 7 specialist programs run: art, drama, library, music, PE, Spanish, and technology. Drama is a required weekly class for every student K–8, music meets twice weekly in K–5, and Spanish runs K–8.

The Learning Support Program is unusually developed for a school this size. A full-time Learning Specialist, 2 assistant specialists, and a testing specialist run a three-tier intervention model with Orton-Gillingham reading groups, school-wide screening, and free in-house educational testing, at no additional cost to families. Students with documented disabilities receive an Individualized Learning Plan.

Renaissance STAR assessments run 3 times a year, K–8. Middle schoolers are 1-to-1 with tablets, host OMSI visiting labs, and enter an annual science and engineering fair, and 6th graders attend a week of Outdoor School each fall. Each grade plans and leads school liturgies and takes on its own service focus, from park stewardship to a book drive to 10 hours of outside service in 8th grade.

Kindergartners are paired with 5th grade buddies, and 7th and 8th graders serve on student council and the peer mediation team.
