Sabin is a small K–5 neighborhood school in NE Portland, part of the Grant High School cluster. The lower grades run multi-age: 2 full-day kindergarten classes feed 3 blended 1st/2nd grade classrooms before students move into single-grade 3rd through 5th. Specials are covered by dedicated art, music, PE, and media/library staff, and academic support includes an instructional coach, a reading intervention teacher, an ELL teacher, a Learning Center, and a school counselor. The building also houses an MECP Peer Preschool classroom, an inclusive Early Childhood Special Education program for 3 and 4 year olds that enrolls countywide through Preschool for All.
The Sabin Native Garden and Edible Garden are used as curriculum components and SUN School runs after-school and family programming on site. The school's stated mission centers interdependence, intellectual curiosity, and critical thinking, with an inclusive vision of empowering compassionate, lifelong learners. Sabin's PTA is unusually active for a school this size: it makes classroom grants to every teacher and runs Run for Sabin, Mt. Readmore, Dine Out nights, OBOB, and a spring carnival, with monthly general meetings that include free childcare and pizza. One note for families reading older listings: Sabin was an authorized IB World School for many years, and PPS ended district-funded elementary IB programming as part of 2025-26 budget cuts. IB language has since been removed from the school's own pages.

Seats here aren’t first-come; they’re drawn by lottery. Each circle below is a tenth of the families who applied over the last two springs and stayed in the running (didn’t take a higher-ranked school). Filled circles got a yes.
Official PPS lottery results, 2025-26 & 2026-27 combined: offers made ÷ families still in the running (offered + waitlisted); applications cancelled for a higher-ranked school excluded. pps.net › prior transfer data. Slots reset every year.
