Portland Adventist Elementary School

a faith-based private school in Gresham

PK–8 · Private · Religious · Seventh Day Adventist

3990 NW 1st St Gresham · Jeni Schmidt, Principal

Portland Adventist Elementary School combines a strong focus on reading and math with daily classroom worship, Friday whole-school worship, and Bible as a core subject. The curriculum covers Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Bible, with faith and character woven throughout via the school's 5 C's framework: Caring, Courage, Courtesy, Common Sense, and Cooperation.

Students engage in project-based thematic work starting in grades 4 and 5, a robust arts program including music, band, choir, handbells, and visual arts, and physical education that spans personal fitness, skill development, team play, and interscholastic sports.

Middle schoolers rotate between subject teachers, choose electives in Drama, Art, Yearbook, and Health & Fitness, and work in a Makerspace and computer labs on cross-subject projects. Spanish is taught by 1 teacher on staff.

Students who struggle with reading get individualized time with their classroom teacher and a Reading Aide, and the school maintains a referral partnership with a NE Portland Sylvan Learning Center that discounts outside tutoring for PAES families. The program takes a whole-child approach, nurturing students' spiritual, intellectual, physical, emotional, and social development.

Tuition: $9,375 - $9,525 (2026-2027 range)
