Open School East is a relationship-based high school program (grades 9–12) for students who need something different than a comprehensive campus. The school partners with six districts (Centennial, David Douglas, Gresham-Barlow, Parkrose, Reynolds, and PPS) and surrounds students with inclusive classrooms, intensive remediation, credit acceleration/recovery, and culturally sustaining curriculum.

Daily life features Teacher/Advocate mentoring groups, mental-health and counseling supports, and trauma-informed schedules. Instruction leans into voice and identity, with an emphasis on equity, self-advocacy, and real-world “opportunity exposure” through career and learning trips. The model prioritizes consistent family communication and strength-based partnership.

Transportation comes through the home district via bus or HOP pass; McKinney-Vento pathway for unhoused students under 18. It’s a tight-knit academic setting designed to help students re-engage, meet graduation requirements, and plan post-secondary pathways.
