Mt. Scott is a long-running, trauma-informed high school serving students in a close-knit, supportive setting. Opened in 1994, it is a nonprofit community-based organization that contracts with Portland Public Schools to offer an alternative path to a standard diploma. Students pay no tuition. The school occupies the historic former Laurelwood Methodist Church and has been regionally accredited by Cognia since 2003. Roughly 160 students in grades 9 to 12 work in classes of 18 to 20 on a cell-phone-free campus.
Every student is assigned an Academic Advisor who stays with them for their whole time at the school and meets with their advisory group each morning. An on-site Special Education team runs study skills classes and supports students in class. Every student takes part in monthly off-campus service learning, and juniors and seniors work with Transitions Specialists on credit recovery and post-graduation planning. Arts and experiential/service learning programs offered; sports available through partnerships with neighborhood high schools.

Seats here aren’t first-come; they’re drawn by lottery. Each circle below is a tenth of the families who applied over the last two springs and stayed in the running (didn’t take a higher-ranked school). Filled circles got a yes.
Official PPS lottery results, 2025-26 & 2026-27 combined: offers made ÷ families still in the running (offered + waitlisted); applications cancelled for a higher-ranked school excluded. pps.net › prior transfer data. Slots reset every year.
