Lewis Elementary is a K-5 neighborhood school in Woodstock, built on land where orchards and gardens once grew. The garden spaces that remain are working ones; the school runs seasonal plant sales, and the campus earned an Oregon Sustainable School Award for its work on healthy, safe students and staff. Every student takes weekly music, and the program deepens from there: Recorder Club, 2 levels of band, and an Orff ensemble called Boomin' Beats. Classroom arts instruction comes through the Right Brain Initiative, which places professional teaching artists alongside Lewis teachers.
The school's most distinctive academic asset may be its neighbor: Reed College sits 2 miles away, and for more than 20 years Reed students have taught weekly hands-on science lessons in Lewis classrooms, with students visiting the campus, nuclear reactor included. Fifth graders attend a Science Camp the community funds through benefit concerts. Reading support comes partly through SMART Reading, which pairs volunteers with students for 1-on-1 sessions, and the school also houses a district Communication Classroom serving students with behavioral and communication needs. An active PTA and a Parent Advisory Committee that directs donations toward staffing round out an unusually involved parent community. Lewis feeds Sellwood Middle School and then Cleveland High School.

Seats here aren’t first-come; they’re drawn by lottery. Each circle below is a tenth of the families who applied over the last two springs and stayed in the running (didn’t take a higher-ranked school). Filled circles got a yes.
Official PPS lottery results, 2025-26 & 2026-27 combined: offers made ÷ families still in the running (offered + waitlisted); applications cancelled for a higher-ranked school excluded. pps.net › prior transfer data. Slots reset every year.
