Laurelhurst K-8 School

a tuition-free public neighborhood school in Portland

K–8 · Public · Neighborhood · Portland Public Schools

840 NE 41st Ave, Portland · Alyson Brant

Laurelhurst is a long-standing neighborhood K–8 where the culture feels upbeat and structured, clear routines, visible leadership, and teachers who set high expectations while keeping learning lively.

The K–8 model means elementary and middle grades share a campus: older students step into leadership roles (mentoring, safety patrols, performances), while younger grades benefit from a steady, familiar community year after year.

Families often point to strong core instruction in reading, writing, and math paired with art, music, PE, and library time, plus targeted intervention/enrichment blocks that help kids stretch or catch up. Standard TAG services rounds it all out.

An active PTA underwrites extras, from classroom grants to grounds and garden care, and longstanding traditions (performances, community events, service days) keep the calendar full. Big picture: it’s a high-energy, well-organized neighborhood school where students are known, challenged, and supported across the full K–8 arc.
