International School of Beaverton

a tuition-free public focus option in Beaverton

6–12 · Public · Focus Option · IB · Beaverton School District

17770 SW Blanton St, Beaverton · Andrew Gilford

International School of Beaverton (ISB) is a tuition-free public option school and the only "wall-to-wall" IB World School in Oregon, where 100% of students pursue the full International Baccalaureate continuum: Middle Years Programme (grades 6-10) and Diploma Programme (grades 11-12). Admission is lottery-based to mirror Beaverton School District demographics, no entrance requirements or qualifications. The school deliberately serves a diverse population: over 50 languages spoken at home, 68% students of color, and 29% identified as talented and gifted. ISB is certified AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), offering AVID as a support class prioritizing first-generation college students and historically underrepresented groups.

Students complete MYP personal projects in 10th grade and must take required HL courses (English, Biology, History) plus Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge, and CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) in grades 11-12. World language options include Spanish, Japanese, and Mandarin. The school maintains a 100% graduation rate and ~90% of graduates attend 2- or 4-year colleges. Classes run on an A/B block schedule with 7 courses per semester. Big picture: an academically rigorous IB-for-all model designed to provide international-mindedness and college preparation to a socioeconomically and culturally diverse student body through lottery access rather than selective admission.

Seats here aren’t first-come; they’re drawn by lottery. Each circle below is a tenth of the families who applied over the last two springs and stayed in the running (didn’t take a higher-ranked school). Filled circles got a yes.
