Ida B. Wells-Barnett High School is a comprehensive public high school on a 20-acre park-like campus in SW Portland and the endpoint of the Westside Spanish Dual Language Immersion pathway. Students who have been in the Spanish DLI program at feeder schools (Ainsworth via West Sylvan, and other SW schools via Robert Gray and Jackson) continue their bilingual education here through AP Spanish, AP Spanish Literature, and Heritage Speakers courses, with eligibility for the Oregon Seal of Biliteracy. Beyond immersion, the school offers 28 AP courses, more than 12 dual-credit options, and AVID for college readiness. World languages include Spanish, French, and ASL. A 9th Grade Communities model pairs teachers for modern world history, physics, and English to support the freshman transition. Career and technical programs include Sound Engineering, Health Occupations, and Business/Marketing, and the school offers four years of Computer Science including Systems Dynamics and Modelling. Visual and performing arts span 13+ art courses (including Illustration and Ceramics), 18 music and theater courses, and Dance. Students participate in 60+ clubs and OSAA 6A PIL athletics. The school culture emphasizes equity, inclusion, and civic engagement.
A comprehensive modernization is underway: construction on a new four-story building begins December 2026 on the current multipurpose field, with students remaining in the existing 1956 building during construction. The new facility opens Fall 2029, with athletic fields completing Fall 2030. Athletic programs (except softball) will move off-site through Fall 2030, with fields completing after the old building is demolished.

Seats here aren’t first-come; they’re drawn by lottery. Each circle below is a tenth of the families who applied over the last two springs and stayed in the running (didn’t take a higher-ranked school). Filled circles got a yes.
Official PPS lottery results, 2025-26 & 2026-27 combined: offers made ÷ families still in the running (offered + waitlisted); applications cancelled for a higher-ranked school excluded. pps.net › prior transfer data. Slots reset every year.
