a tuition-free public neighborhood school in Portland

9–12 · Public · Language Immersion · Japanese · Portland Public Schools

2245 NE 36th Ave, Portland · James McGee

Grant High School is a large comprehensive high school with approximately 2,100 students in Northeast Portland. The school offers a robust academic program with Advanced Placement courses (71% AP participation rate), dual credit opportunities with Portland Community College, and Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways. Grant is the high school continuation site for Portland's Japanese Dual Language Immersion program, which begins at Richmond Elementary and continues through Mt. Tabor Middle School.

Students praise the school's academic rigor and variety of extracurricular options. Strong performing arts programs include marching band (which performs at all home football games, parades, and festivals), symphonic band, choir, and an annual musical produced collaboratively by the performing arts department. The Grant PTA supports students and teachers through classroom grants, assistance with the All Night Party for seniors, Writers in the Schools program, teacher appreciation events, and helps run the PTA Clothing Center that serves all of PPS. The campus reopened in Fall 2019 after a two-year, $158 million modernization that completely rebuilt the interior while preserving the 1923 Classical Revival exterior, adding new collaboration spaces, modern classrooms, an expanded gymnasium, renovated auditorium, and visual arts complex.
