Glencoe Elementary School

a tuition-free public neighborhood school in Portland

K–5 · Public · Neighborhood · Portland Public Schools

825 SE 51st Ave, Portland · Katie Gunderson

Glencoe is a walkable neighborhood K–5 in SE Portland where core instruction in reading, writing, and math is paired with a visible arts presence and easy-to-navigate routines. Students learn from specialist teachers in music, PE, art, and library, with field trips ranging from Bonneville Dam to concerts at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall.

The school's signature Art Infusion program, created in 2001 by parent volunteers, brings visual arts integrated with math, science, and social studies into every classroom through trained parent volunteers who teach monthly lessons and culminate the year with a student-curated art show.

The PTA is also leading a multiyear playground refresh effort with PPS support, sharing concept designs and progress updates on a dedicated page with fundraising milestones and phased construction timelines. Big picture: a friendly, well-organized neighborhood school where arts, music, and parent partnership are easy to see in the daily schedule.
