George Middle School is a neighborhood school in Portland's St. Johns community serving grades 6 through 8, with a Spanish dual language immersion (DLI) continuation track alongside its general education program. DLI students spend half their instructional day in Spanish, continuing the pathway they started at feeder elementaries Sitton and James John, and can carry the sequence through High School toward Oregon's Seal of Biliteracy. The school runs AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) with a dedicated instructional coach, building college-readiness habits like note-taking, organization, and inquiry across all grade levels.
George operates a large, structured Special Education department with six SPED teachers spanning three program types (Learning Center, Social Emotional, and Intensive Skills Center) and an unusually deep behavioral-support team that includes a counselor, social worker, school psychologist, QMHP, therapeutic intervention coach, and restorative justice coordinator. Academic interventionists in both Language Arts and Math provide targeted small-group support, and four ESL teachers serve a student body where 20 home languages are spoken. On-site community partners include Self Enhancement Inc. (SUN), IRCO, Latino Network, and Oregon Bravo, all with dedicated staff embedded in the building. SBAC proficiency rates remain below state averages in ELA, Math, and Science, and regular attendance (53%) trails the Oregon average (67%), though both ELA and Science scores showed year-over-year gains on the most recent assessment. The school implements PBIS and Restorative Justice through its MTSS department and feeds into Roosevelt High School.

Seats here aren’t first-come; they’re drawn by lottery. Each circle below is a tenth of the families who applied over the last two springs and stayed in the running (didn’t take a higher-ranked school). Filled circles got a yes.
Official PPS lottery results, 2025-26 & 2026-27 combined: offers made ÷ families still in the running (offered + waitlisted); applications cancelled for a higher-ranked school excluded. pps.net › prior transfer data. Slots reset every year.
