French International School of Oregon

a private school in Portland

PK–8 · Private · Language Immersion · French

8500 NW Johnson Street · Scott Hardister, Head of School

French International School of Oregon is an independent PreK–8 IB World School with full French immersion through fifth grade and multiple language pathways in middle school. Lower School students (PreK–5) learn entirely in French from native-speaking teachers, building fluency through the IB Primary Years Programme's inquiry-based approach. In sixth grade, students transition to Gilkey International Middle School, where they choose an immersion track in French, German, Spanish, or Mandarin Chinese (for students already proficient in a second language), or the English-focused International Track; all students also begin a new language at the beginner level, so they graduate with exposure to multiple languages.

The IB Middle Years Programme runs in five parallel languages, with teachers collaborating to deliver one cohesive curriculum across all tracks. Daily learning integrates academic subjects with arts (pottery, dance, music), outdoor education in the campus forest (with nature trails and outdoor classrooms), and robust Extended Learning programs that feel more like extracurriculars than daycare, according to families. The school partners with German International School (formerly German American School); its graduates can continue German instruction at French International's middle school. Graduates leave fluent or proficient in multiple languages, prepared for IB Diploma programmes and selective high schools, and shaped as global citizens who value cultural diversity and think from an international perspective.

Tuition: $25,920 - $30,420 (2026-2027 range)
