Flourish is a homeschool-aligned microschool in the Portland/Milwaukie area designed for students who aren’t thriving in a traditional system, with a stated vision “to create a learning community where children could thrive outside of the traditional system.” The core program serves 3rd–8th graders in very small groups (capped at ~5), while instruction concentrates on reading, writing, and math. The teacher builds targeted mini-lessons and then coaches students through work time, keeping the pace responsive for kids who need more movement, individual attention, or a calmer environment.

The program also weaves in structured social time and movement/game blocks (e.g., special sessions and “cozy” middle-school events) to lower stress and rebuild school confidence. Families who knew the earlier Macie LaRae middle-school pod will recognize the same model and leadership, now operating under the Flourish name and schedule in the Gladstone area. In short: a calm, small-group academic block focused on literacy and math, purpose-built for learners who need a flexible, relationship-rich setting to re-engage and grow.
