Childpeace Montessori is Portland’s leading Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) certified school, serving students from toddlerhood through middle school. The curriculum is built on the "uninterrupted work cycle," where students have three-hour blocks of time to engage deeply with self-chosen tasks using specialized, hands-on materials rather than textbooks or rote lectures. In the elementary years, this expands into "Cosmic Education," an integrated study of history, geography, and biology designed to show children how all elements of the world are interconnected. A major differentiator is the school’s "Going Out" program, which empowers elementary students to plan their own small-group field trips to local resources like the public library or a botanical garden to research specific interests. The middle school program, housed in a separate building one block away, transitions into "Project-Based Learning" where adolescents tackle six-week cycles of intensive study, including a hallmark bike-building project and the annual week-long "Odyssey" camping trip.
